February Photo a Day: 10am

We started gearing up early for the "Big Game".  Giants vs. Patriots.  Our two cities from the last year are facing off against each other.  Even though NYC beats out Boston in terms of enjoyment, our team is the Pats!

This picture pretty much sums up our food for the day. While Erik made us pancakes, I zested the limes for a simple syrup to make beer-garitas! (Simple syrup has to cool. In hindsight, I should have done this last night.) By the way, this is the best zester in the entire world.  Look how smooth it leaves the lime and how it gets all the zest off.  I'm zesting onto a paper towel for ease of transferring the zest to a pot.

Comments going clockwise from the yellow bowl: I rehydrated lima beans in the yellow bowl overnight for mushroom soup.  The white bowl is staged for the juicing of all those limes. We're making 2 soups this week, hence all the chicken broth.  Erik picked up Doritos (I'm trying to avoid processed foods so he will not have to share. Ignore the BBW reference below...).  I bought the NFL Gameday Cookbook from a used bookstore in Cambridge (such a cool cookbook—has recipes and interesting facts about all the NFL football teams).  I love having so many cookbooks because it makes it fun to menu plan every week.  I think we could cook for YEARS and never repeat.

On the menu for today:

Breakfast: Pancakes (with scrambled eggs for me)

Lunch: Fish tacos & beer-garitas

Dinner/ Game Time: BWW-like sauce, popcorn shrimp, potato skins and green dip

Cooking for the rest of the week: Pozole, Mushroom and Lima Bean Stew, Apricot BBQ Chicken with brussels sprouts (made sloppy joes last night).
